Biography
Since the beginning of her career, Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth has introduced audiences on all six continents to the trumpet repertoire and has received high praise from critics for her soulful, lyrical tone and her collaborative approach to music-making. As an artist who challenges genre boundaries with an extremely creative and open-minded philosophy, Tine’s ever-expanding repertoire ranges from classical music to contemporary works and new commissions.
Since 2023, Tine has served as artistic director of the Risør Chamber Music Festival, a festival with which she has been closely associated for more than a decade. Throughout her career, she has been honored with numerous awards for her contributions to classical music, including “Newcomer of the Year” at the 2013 Echo Klassik Awards, the 2009 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, and second prize at the 2006 Eurovision Young Musicians Competition.
In the 2025–26 season, Tine will continue her commitment to “Doom Painting”—a new trumpet concerto that Nico Muhly composed especially for her. Following successful European premieres with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra under Markus Poschner and with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Hannu Lintu at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, she will perform the work in Norway with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and Pekka Kuusisto, as well as in the United Kingdom with the Hallé Orchestra under A
